Unit 11- Progression

CV

My ambitions and intentions

For my next step into the future after I finish my extended diploma I want to get into university and study sociology combined with criminology or digital marketing. I chose sociology combined with criminology because i've always been interested in this subject and wanted to study it for a very long time at first I was going to do social work, but I researched into it and there isn't much career options so after I found that out I was told by one of my family members that studied sociology combined with criminology, that there are much more career options for example social work, counsellor, probation officer and many more and it will be much easier as I have different job options I can do after university. I know that this is much different to what I'm studying right now but I thought I might as well give it a try as it something new for me we shall see what the future holds. Along with doing website research I will also ask people what their experience was like and how they found the subject so that I can get different perspectives on what others think and the pros and cons of this subject so that I know what I'm getting into to. As for digital marketing this is a subject relating to what I'm studying right now, digital marketing is the promotion of brands to connect with potential customers using the internet and other forms of digital communication. This includes not only email, social media, and web-based advertising but also text and multimedia messages as a marketing channel. This subject was intriguing to me because it sounds so interesting and it's a media course that I know I will be good at. Also I feel like I have the skills for example Photoshop skills,After effect and ect also social media knowledge. I've already asked someone who's done digital marketing they described it as it boosts your confidence because you have to do a lot of pitching which means presenting your idea to a group which is something I enjoy doing now so I'm excited to see what I can learn from this subject if I chose to do it.

open days:

Middlesex:

One the 15th of October I went to the Middlesex university open day for the course Sociology with Criminology at the Hendon campus. When I went there they explained what the course was about, how the assessments will be taking place and what topics we will being doing in the academic year. This was very helpful as I will know what I will be doing, also the head of the course gave us his experience on how he felt about this subject this was really helpful as he's experienced it he also gave us tips and tricks on how to perfect our coursework which was very useful and I really enjoyed hearing his experience. He gave us a tour area the university I got to see the lecture room, the library and the classrooms this was my first option for my university and I was very impressed and will definitely be considering going here as I was very interested in the subject and how the university looked.

Apprenticeship:

I also had a zoom meeting with an apprenticeship. Although I am planning to go to university I also wanted to see how an apprenticeship would be, this apprenticeship was criminology based I felt like in person it's better because with zoom meetings it could be laggy at time which is frustrating. I was with 5 other people they explained what we will be doing and how things are structured basically It will be studying and working at the same time. The most interesting thing is that we will be working in a court and doing case study work which was exciting for me hear as I am really intrigued by this stuff because I'm very invested in this subject and working can give me the upper hand.  he did explain that getting an apprenticeship in a crime based subject is very competitive which is why I applied to both university and a apprenticeship just to play it safe, I will keep an open mind when deciding whether I want to go to university or do an apprenticeship because I found them both very interesting and I guess I have to see what the future holds.

Skill audit:

This is my Skill Audit I have done for my work experience. This is useful to know what my skills are and for the people I am doing work experience to see where my strengthens are. I believe it's important for me to see what I'm good at and what I need to improve on so when it comes to me doing commissions I know what to do and what not to do so it could looks as good as possible and for them to be satisfied with the outcome. For my work experience I will be designing a logo and a social media account for a new football team that is launching soon, to help me make the logo which they might use for their brand logo and for their football shirts I will be using either Procreate or Photoshop to achieve the design for the logo. I also need to use my work skills for example hitting deadlines, working in a team and communicating with my client because if I don't this nothing will go to plan and it won't be successful which is not what I want for my client as I want them to be pleased with my work . Working in a team is the most important because me and my client can come with ideas together and brainstorm how we want the social media account and the logo to look like.

What's Possible trip

Me and class got invited to see the What's Possible group. They are an advertising company that advertises for big brands like SuperDry, PLT, Boohoo and ect. I was amazed that they worked with brands I buy from, they showed us some of the advert they have provided which were really good and well edited. They also came up one by one and explained their roles to us which was helpful as we can get an idea of what their jobs are and what they do. Also they gave us some tips on our LinkedIn and CV's and offered that they do apprenticeship for young people like us so that we can get into the advertising field. However I felt like they should've made us do some interactive activities for example planning an advert it was just talking which kind of bored me that's my personal opinion. Also some of them explained that you don't need a degree to get into advertising which is helpful for the people who ain't going to university as they can find other roots. Overall the experience was useful as some people do want to go into advertising personally not me as I want to purse a different career but it was fun experience.
